Island Hopping
- Strategy, taking over key islands and leaving the rest to wither away
- At the same time as Pearl Harbour the Japanese attack Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Dutch East Indies (oil)
- Battle of the Coral Sea (May 1942) (first battle that aircrafts carriers do not see each other)
- Battle of Midway June 1942 Japanese lost 4 carriers to one American carrier (took the Japanese a lot of time to produce these compared to the Americans)
- Battle of Leyte Gulf (largest naval battle ever in history) Japanese lost their remaining fleet and 4 more carriers
- Kamikazes begin (flying your plane into places on purpose - suicide)
- Had enough planes and enough oil to keep them sustained but they didn't have trained pilots who were willing to give their lives (samurai ideals)
Summary
The Japanese attempt to take over Pacific islands. By taking over the bigger, more crucial islands, the rest wither away. The Battle of the Coral Sea, the Battle of Midway, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf all take place and Kamikazes begin.
