Self Rule and the Salt March
• Protest to the recently added British tax on salt
• In protest, Gandhi walked from Sabarmati, Ashram to Dandi, Gujarat to get salt from the ocean(240 miles)
• Many thousands followed him
• March lasts March 12 to April 6, 1930.
• Outcome draws support for the independence movement across India and the World
• Very significant movement for the independence of India
• Gandhi arrested and put in prison for his role in this
• Once he got into prison he would refuse to eat, British could not allow him to die because they feared his supporters would most likely riot, attacking, causing violence (he became a martyr/symbol of independence)

The salt march was a peaceful protest, that resulted in many followers for Gandhi . He was put in prison though.
