Isolationism
- Isolationism= staying out of world affairs
- USA did bad job of that except for not joining League of Nations
- USA helps out with the Dawes Plan 1924
- Kellogg- Briand Pact, 1928
- doesn't join the League of Nations
- Republican attitude, says that they will let the world fight it selfs out while they sit there but that isn't really what actually happened.
- The Republican Presidents (Warren, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover), no one really remembers them..
- Hoover comes in during the depression
- "Return to Normalcy"
- Still limited immigration especially from Asia (didn't want americans to lose their jobs)
- High tariffs
- Does not guarantee any European agreements (America feels she is a peace loving nation, unlike Europe)
- 1933 USA formally recognizes Stalin being the leader of Russia (because Hitler takes over Germany --> facism is a big threat so communism is accepted for a small time).
Summary
Although the United States was trying really hard to be isolated, the only thing that they succeeded with this was not joining the league of nations. The US said they were isolationists but they took place in many world affairs that
