Krushchev and De-Stalinization
- Stalin dies in 1953
- Malenkov becomes Soviet leader from 1953-55 (not important)
- Replaced by Nikita Krushchev in 1955
- Begins to remove any support for Stalin through De-Stalinization
- get rid of his supporters and Stalin's ideas (made him look bad in history books, took down statues of Stalin, stripped Stalin of his war medals, brings to light all the people killed by Stalin and all the bad he did)
- First act was to form the Warsaw Pact
- It signalled less harsh treatment of the Satellite states
- they were wrong because he was just as harsh
Summary
In 1953, Stalin died. Eventually Nikita Khrushchev came into power and removed any remaining support for Stalin by ridding the nation of any monuments of the former leader also by having less harsh treatment of the satellite states.
