The Long March
- Mao led his Red Army on a 9000km retreat across China
- Lost ¾ of his army
- Settle in the north (Shensi) where he forms the Yenan Soviet (seen as a huge symbol of resistance)
- CCP began to gain power due to their resistance of the Japanese
- Kuomintang was more worried about fighting the CCP
Aspects of Guerrilla Warfare
- Act quickly for decisive conclusions to battle
- Concentrate forces
- Take advantage of enemies limitations (ie. Being a foreigner, having limited resources)
- Ability to move quickly
- Still treated the people well and therefore gained support
- Had a lot of success
- Being Flexible
- Using hit and run tactics
- Use the locals for help
- Used it in the Spanish Civil War, where the word comes from
Summary
Mao led his Red army across much of China. He lost many men. He settled in the north of China where he established the Yan'an Soviet. They used Guerrilla warfare which included : Acting quickly and using locals for help.
