Mao Zedong
- After he fled he began to rebuild the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
- Very big role for 50 years
- Mao built party (CCP) on rural peasantry (no urban workers to deal with) because they had the most to gain from communism
- Chiang fought hard to rid the CCP from their stronghold even as the Japanese began to invade Manchuria
- This gained him support because they believed that he was fighting for them
- CCP fought guerrilla warfare
- One of the deadliest leaders in history, many people died because of his policies
Mao's China
- Tradition in China gave new rulers “Mandate from Heaven”
- This meant that this was a position given to him by a higher power and no one was better than him
- Democratic Centralism - Total obedience to the leader (Leninist model)
- The First Plan (5 year plan) - Some aid from USSR, Emphasis on heavy industry
- Like Russia there was a form of collectivization called APC’s (Agricultural Producer Co-Operatives)
- There were people who resisted this (Kulaks) and burnt their crops instead
Summary
He is the founder of the CCP. He created the five year plan which was based on heavy industry and people working instead of machines. He also formed the APC which combined little farms into one big one= collectivization.
