Locarno and Kellogg-Briand Pacts
The Locarno Pact 1925:
The Kellogg-Briand Pact 1928:
Treaty of Rapallo:
- begins a period of optimism "The spirit of Locarno"
- Britain, France, Belgium, Italy and Germany sign it
- Guarantees borders of European borders
- Demilitarizes the Rhineland
- Brings insecurity in the east (Russia thinks everyone is out to get them)
- A period of peace
The Kellogg-Briand Pact 1928:
- 15 nations including USA, Germany and RUssia (Manu other countries sign similar deals)
- Denounced war as a method of solving disputes
- Won nobel prize for this
- None of this is backed up though, if someone wants to start a war they will (USA not isolationist)
Treaty of Rapallo:
- Russia and Germany
- Allowed for German soldiers to train in Russia
- Exchanged military goods
Summary
All these pacts during this time period had the intention of making sure there wasn't going to be a Second World War. The issue was that this were agreements that were made without any back-up, so if the pact was broken no repercussions were made, only the fact that there was going to be a world war.
