- Wasn't intended to put USA into war
- Japanese wanted to give the Americans a quick hit so they could get a free card to hit other small islands with resources (rubber)
- Eight battleships were damaged, two were lost and three were absent at the time
- Almost a success

- Oil depots weren't destroyed
- Aircraft carriers (most valuable boats) were absent so they could retaliate with them
- Submarine pens were not destroyed
- USA declares war on Japan
- USA didn't join European war because of Pearl Harbour
- Hitler declares war on USA on Dec. 10 (Hitler was the one that brought the US into their war)
- This is what made the USA join the allies against Germany
